Guardian of the visual image – the lighting designer’s true role

In his presentation, Brett Andersen will introduce the idea of taking the skills of lighting designers a step further – making them the guardian of a project’s visual image. Brett will underline what is required to carry out this role successfully, and what additional tools and deliverables are needed.  Practical examples will be shown – including potential challenges and solutions. Promoting this approach to clients and architects can raise the importance and value of lighting designers across the design industry.

As a principal designer at Focus Lighting, Brett Andersen approaches each project with the philosophy that lighting should do more than just help you see – lighting should make you feel. His goal has been to blend architecture and light in unique ways to create memorable experiences. Brett has collaborated with renowned design professionals on projects spanning the globe, such as the Atmosphere Restaurant on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Bank of America’s Corporate Center in Charlotte NC, and he is currently designing the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, among countless others. Brett has been honored with many lighting design awards, including numerous Lumen Awards and IES Awards of Excellence. Some of his speaking experience includes the HD Expo, the National Arts Club, Lightfair International, and the Professional Lighting Design Convention in Rome.
