ΑΙ-empowered lighting style/atmosphere transfer

Presentation date: 27. October
Presentation time: 18:15

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now everywhere. AI is defined as the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines. These processes include mainly learning, reasoning and self-correction. But what about AI and lighting design? In this context, the research work presented by Georgios Triantafyllidisfocuses on the learning process of AI, i.e. how to learn and transfer different lighting design styles/atmospheres to other scene renderings, aiming at AI-aided conceptualization and atmosphere creation for scenes. Visualizations produced from the research team’s proposed methodology will be presented.

Dr. Georgios Triantafyllidis/GR, Aalborg University Copenhagen

Dr. Georgios Triantafyllidis gained his degree in Electrical Engineering and PhD in Image/Video Processing from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/GR in 1997 and 2002, respectively. From 2002, he served in various positions as a researcher, as well as a lecturer. In 2009, he joined the Applied Informatics and Multimedia Dept of the Technological Educational Institute of Crete/GR as an assistant professor. In 2012, he was appointed adjunct professor of the Dept of Architecture, Design & Media Technology at Aalborg University Copenhagen/DK, and since 2015 associate professor in the same department.

Dr. Triantafyllidis has been involved in more than 30 national and international competitive research projects, where he conducted research in various fields: smart systems, computer vision, machine learning and intelligent lighting design. He has edited three specialist journals and published more than 110 referred research papers with more than 1000 citations (source google scholar).

His research interests include personalised lighting, intelligent circadian lighting, AI and machine learning in lighting design, IoT and smart sensors.

He is a senior member of the Lighting Design Research Group at Aalborg University Copenhagen, focusing on how media technology and artificial intelligence are transforming the practice of lighting design. He is also teaching at Aalborg University Copenhagen on the Lighting Design Master education programme, a new, cross-disciplinary, international and award-winning programme based on the special Nordic tradition combining lighting engineering, architecture and media technology.
