The re-regulated future of lighting

This paper will discuss the worldwide tendency of governments to regulate lighting, the accomplishments of the lighting industry in responding to energy issues, the institutionalization of lighting regulations and their potentially negative impacts on lighting quality, and a way to evolve lighting to continue to improve lighting quality worldwide. The speaker will include examples from North America, a number of European countries, India, the Middle East and Australia/New Zealand.

James Benya is a professional engineer and lighting designer with 40 years’ experience in architectural lighting design, including daylighting, theatrical and performance lighting, urban streetscapes, light as art, and zero net energy building design. He is the author of two books: Lighting Design Basics; and Retrofitting and Relighting, and is among the most widely respected international lecturers and speakers in the field of lighting design, daylighting design and efficient buildings. Together with lead author Deborah Burnett, James is penning his third Wiley Publication entitled Evidence-Based Lighting Design.
