Introduced by

Prof. Jan Blieske/DE, University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design Wismar

Jan Blieske is an architect, lighting designer and product designer. Since March 2017 he has been teaching »Lighting Application in Architecture« as a professor in the international Master’s programme »Architectural Lighting Design« at the faculty of design at Hochschule Wismar – University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design. His research is focussed on the topics »Full integration of the illumination into the architecture« and »Lighting in listed buildings«.

After working as an architect in built heritage preservation projects for many years, he undertook his first steps in lighting design as the freelance project manager for the Berlin-based »studio dinnebier«, who were commissioned to design the exhibition lighting in the Phaeno Science Center Wolfsburg designed by Zaha Hadid.

In 2008, he was a founding partner of the Berlin-based lighting design practice »Dinnebier+Blieske«, which since 2016 is dedicated exclusively to the development of products for the lighting industry. Together with Jan Dinnebier he developed several innovative products such as the EUTRAC »in-trac» adaptor and the multiply awarded Mawa »FlatBoxLED« series.

In June 2016, he founded his practice »blieske architects lighting designers«. The studio understands lighting design as integral part of the architectural design process. Together with his team he explores the potential of enabling the optimum perception of architecture by applying light as an architectural medium.
