Lighting Design of Things

Presentation date: 24. October
Presentation time: 16:45

The world of IoT, or the Internet of Things, is a vast and confusing one. We are dealing with rapid changes in technology and the increasing interconnectivity of our devices. With the emergence of smart buildings and smart technology, understanding and keeping up with the evolving infrastructure can be hard to navigate. Anyone, Any Business, Any Network, Anywhere, Anytime, Any device. We believe this will have a big impact on the way our lighting design services will be delivered.Martin and Ingmar will provide insight into IoT and its integration into lighting design and what this means for the lighting designer of the future. Ongoing pilot projects and case studies will show how the potential role of the lighting designer may be redefined.

Introduced by

Martin Klaasen/NL/SG, Klaasen Lighting Design

Martin Klaasen is an award-winning lighting designer, design consultant, lecturer and resource speaker with more than 30 years of experience in the lighting industry, operating predominantly in the Asia Pacific region. Martin applies his passion for lighting design exclusively through his own company, Klaasen Lighting Design (KLD), with its head office in Singapore. Several of his designs have received national and international lighting design awards. His expertise and experience span all applications, with projects around the globe. Martin is widely respected by his peers in the industry.

More recently Martin, together with his son Ingmar Klaasen, has set up a new exciting venture called Lighting Design of Things (LDoT). The new start-up fills a gap in the industry to provide professional consultancy to facilitate the integration of smart data analytics systems within the lighting infra-structure. Several pilot projects with key industry players are already ongoing.

Martin is also passionate about sharing his knowledge by educating his clients and the public through his public appearances and many articles in the media. His blog, “Light Talk”, is linked to the Professional Lighting Design magazine’s website and enjoys a fervent and worldwide group of followers. Martin’s first year of blogging was compiled into a book of the same name. Martin has presented at major lighting events around the world such as the Professional Lighting Design Convention in Copenhagen, WorldBex in Manilla, AceTech in Mumbai, the IES in Perth, Project Lighting in Qatar, Lux-Live in Abu Dhabi, International Light Fair in Las Vegas, as well as highly attended regional lighting events in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok and many more.

Martin was a Steering Committee member for the highly successful PLDC 2018 in Singapore and looks forward to presenting at the upcoming PLDC 2019 in Rotterdam.

Introduced by

Ingmar Klaasen/AU, Klaasen Lighting Design

Ingmar joined Klaasen Lighting Design (KLD) as Business Development Manager having completed his BA Hons in Urban and Regional Planning at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. With this background and his international exposure, Ingmar is frequently the company’s liaison officer for client communication. Together with his skills in urban planning, Ingmar is also involved in developing KLD’s lighting strategies in the field of city master planning. More recently, however, he is playing an important role in developing the company to incorporate the modern technology that is turning lighting ‘smart’. Alongside KLD, Ingmar is helping pioneer the new concept of the Lighting Design of Things (LDoT), with his father Martin Klaasen, to bring together all smart building technology in a single infrastructure and a single consultancy – that related to lighting, which the availability of smart platforms makes possible. It is Ingmar’s endeavour to present a central framework that offers professional unbiased advice for the integration of lighting design and the IoT.

It will be his first time presenting at PLDC and he is looking forward to sharing his experiences and challenges in the implementation of LDoT in recent projects with the wider lighting design community.  See you in Rotterdam!
