About Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, Singapore

Temasek Polytechnic School of Design is Singapore’s most comprehensive design school. It offers a wide range of design courses, ranging from fashion to film, communication design to product design to interior architecture. As the first design school in a polytechnic, it has been a pioneer and a leader in design education since 1990. It continues to lead design education, not only for young students but also for adults of all ages who seek to deepen their skills and knowledge in design.

Over the years it has built a strong reputation among industry and educators, locally and globally, as an award-winning school well-known for its high standards and creative excellence. As recently as 2017, it won the Design Institution of the Year accolade at the Crowbar Awards, where it competed against design institutions in Singapore and internationally. In an industry saturated with award-winners, the School of Design alone proudly counts among its alumni, five recipients of the President’s Design Award Designers of the Year, the highest acknowledgement of design excellence in Singapore and the largest number of recipients to come from any design school in Singapore.

Today, the School of Design works closely with government organizations and industry through ‘live’ projects, consultations, internship and mentorship opportunities for its students. A staunch advocate of transdisciplinary work and collaborative synergies in design, the School believes that design functions best in an integrative process that engages stake-holders and users across design sectors, including non-design fields.

About the Specialist Diploma in Lighting Design

This course is developed in response to changing landscape in the Interior and Architectural Design industry that has led to the growing demand for spatial designers with the bandwidth for a deeper integration of lighting design in their environments.

This is the first IHL to offer this niche programme to address the gap in this area of expertise with the  existing pool of spatial design talent. The course is supported by ERCO and their facility of a lighting simulation lab, a distinguished panel of lighting design specialists from the industry such as Light Cibles, DPLighting and Illuminate, as our team of adjuncts who will deliver the course with us, and a dynamic and robust curriculum that delivers the skills and knowledge through a series of studio work, built project site tours, industry dialogues and seminars. An optional and sponsored itinerary to ERCO HQ in Germany offers our SD Lighting Design students a unique angle to their learning journey with us.
