Tatiana Chalina and Andrey Oleynik

“Prometheus (almost) unbound”

In 2005, Tatiana Chalina started her studies in the Faculty of Journalism at St. Petersburg State University of Service and Economics. In 2009, she transferred to the Institute of Journalism and Literary Art in Moscow, where she gained a degree in Journalism equivalent to an MA Hons. (Level 7 in ISCED classification of UNESCO 2011) in 2012. Parallel to her studies and after gaining her degree (2010-2015) Tatiana worked as a lighting technician and lighting designer in “Kukly” Integrational Theatre, which specialises in putting on plays for handicapped children.

In 2015, she moved to Germany to study Lighting Design at HAWK, Hildesheim. In Winter 2019, she gained her BA with an average score of 1.5, receiving the highest possible marks for both her Project Study and Bachelor’s thesis. Parallel to her studies (2017-2019) she worked as a lighting planer at Schmitz Schiminski Partner GBR, developing interior and exterior architectural lighting solutions in accordance with German guidelines and laws.

Andrey Oleynik was born in Russia and moved to London/UK in 2002 to attend Dulwich College, where he completed his GCSEs and A-levels in Further Mathematics, History and Theatre Studies in 2007. While in Dulwich, Andrey worked as a stagehand, followspot operator and lighting technician at Edward Alleyn Theatre.

From 2008 to 2014 he attended Saint Petersburg State University, gaining a degree equivalent to an MA (Level 7 in ISCED classification of UNESCO 2011) in Philosophy and Teaching.

Parallel to his studies (2010-2015) Andrey worked as a lighting technician and lighting designer in “Kukly” Integrational Theatre, which specialises in putting on plays for handicapped children. At the same time he worked as a lighting technician and lighting designer with “Etjud-Teatr”, created by the students of Veniamin Filshtinsky, and as a lighting technician on the then second most important TV Channel in St. Petersburg – 100tv. Andrey took part in several projects as a lighting designer, the two most significant being: “Tubular Bells II – Russian tribute to Michael Oldfield” in 2016, at the Coliseum, St.Petersburg; and “Amadeus” by Peter Schaffer in 2017 at the Omsk Academic Theatre of Drama, directed by Andzhei Buben.

In 2016, he moved to Germany to study Lighting Design at HAWK, Hildesheim. In Winter 2019, he gained his BA with an average score of 1.4, receiving the highest possible marks for both his Project Study and Bachelor’s thesis. During the 5th semester Andrey worked as an intern at Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, in the Interior Ambient Lighting Design Division.
