AI is already driving changes in our ways of designing. Virginie Nicolas will address this topic by defining which tasks can be effectively replaced or supported by AI. Examples of successful international AI projects in the field of contemporary art and architecture will be shown and discussion encouraged on philosophical and ethical issues relating to the degree of complementarity between humans and AI.

Virginie Nicolas is a qualified engineer, trained in an art school, and since 2005 has headed around 25 architectural and urban lighting projects designed and realised by the lighting design practice Concepto. These include eco-district lighting master plans in France, Morocco and Switzerland, and the lighting design for the contemporary art exhibitions in the Palais des Beaux Arts in Paris for five years.

She has received three awards: for the lighting design for the U4 industrial site, for Les Pissenlits giant steel sculpture, and for a daylight system comprising coloured glass panels and mirrors in the Eqho office tower in Paris.

Virginie is involved in several professional organisations. She has been President of ACE, the French Lighting Designers’ association, for a year.
