What makes PLDC so different

What makes PLDC so different

Sixth reason: At PLDC you can witness product launches and revolutionary developments

Seoul Semiconductors will be presenting their newly developed SunLike LED to the global lighting design community.

There are a number of conferences, fairs and gatherings on architectural lighting design that take place around the world in the course of a year. So why do so many lighting designers and lighting specialists appreciate PLDC so much and take the time to be part of this event? What is it that makes PLDC so special that some design practices close down altogether for almost one week to be able to attend?

No other group of professionals is more critical when it comes to new product solutions than experienced professional lighting designers. Which makes launching new products on the occasion of PLDC a tough challenge for the suppliers in question. Discussion and debate on and around the LED currently focusses on the limits of this light source – especially when it comes to spectral distribution.

Which is why we are especially delighted to learn that Seoul Semiconductors will be officially launching their new SunLike product at this year’s PLDC. With their new development, Seoul Semiconductor claim to have come up with a light source that delivers a better continuous spectrum than the incandescent lamp was ever able to do.

“At last!” we will hear some people exclaim … leaving others surprised, to say the least. And there is no better opportunity for exchanging views with colleagues from the international design community and R&D experts from the lighting industry than PLDC, so that at the end of the event one can come to one’s own well-founded conclusions.

A revolution!

Past PLDCs also provided the opportunity to experience new ideas and developments. In Rome in 2015, the excursion to the Sistine Chapel enabled professionals to see the updated lighting scheme for themselves. The excursion was hosted by Osram, who were open to receiving comments and discussing the lighting application with all present.

Discussions held at PLDC are known to have formed the basis for further developments in the market. What else will PLDC 2017 in Paris be offering? The focus of this year’s convention is the urban realm, and how we can expect that to evolve given new technologies and design approaches. The Future of Urban Lighting design ideas competition that took place prior to PLDC has given rise to a number of highly creative and intelligent solutions submitted by designers from around the world.

The shortlisted projects will be presented in an exhibition to be held in three showrooms in the City of Paris during PLDC – Erco, Fagerhult and Zumtobel/Thorn. See more about the PLD Week here.
